Red Rag Collective MINUTES 16 June 85 at 39 Liverpool Road Those present; Paul H, James, M, Nigel C, Guy B, Sue C, Clive R, Cliff J, Ian H, Liz S, Laura N-G Next co-ordinators ------------------ 22 June - Jackie, contact 595605 6 July - Pogle, contact 92 680051 20 July - Liz S, contact 691135 Next collective meeting ----------------------- 14 July at 3.45 at 218 Liverpool Road Treasurer's Treasure -------------------- Bridget is leaving town in about 6 weeks. James volunteerd to take over after that. We have no money - but no debt either, so it's a net cash gain. We need money making vntures though. 10pp issue costs about £80. Events ------ Still nedd someone to take it on. Sue, Clive & Cliff are shring it at the monent. Suggestions tha tit might be more newsy / reasable. SOS list -------- James is to have another go at it Paid ads -------- The rates are £7 quarter or £12 half page. Ads which are to run for several issues need labelling to that efdect when they're put in the box, and also dating. All paid ads should be dealt with by the Treasurer (invoicing, labelling, etc). An invoice book should be in the box for anyone to use, but the Treasurer should check that it's up to date. Full page ads can be accepted if approved of. Inserts should be mnetioned on the contents list as such. They cost 1p each normally. Advertising number to go on front cover, with other contact numbers - 595605 (James). Distribution ------------ James suggested that we might abolish it and rely on outlets - and postals. Frustration about the amount of effort involved and the uncertainty that the Rag actually reaches people, or that it's delivered where it's no longer wanted. Cliff suggested it would be a shame to lose the network of people built up through the distribution system. Problems with outlets are that they are very much concentrated in small pockets; thet we would be open to censure from outlets if they didn't like the front page & refused to display it; that distribution on Sunday afternoons would not always be possible. Suggested that distributors might ask people on the rounds if they want it delivered or if they could collect it from an outlet - thereby cutting down rounds. I don't think we reached a conclusion. However Guy is doing the list for the next issue, and then no more. Volunteer needed to carry on the work. Co-ordination between issues & co-ordinators -------------------------------------------- Each co-ordinator really should go to the editorial meeting - or at least make contact - with the next group. At the moment there is no follow-on between issues. Liz was concerned about our policy on including or not including items. We agreed that each piece should be judged on its own merits at an editorial meeting. Where there is a contact number supplied, we won't edit without getting in touch. Writers should state whether they'd rather it didn't go in at all if it was edited. If someone is slagged off by name, they should have an automatic right of reply. Apologies to Larry for not doing this. Above all, we agreed to be sensible. Rag box at Acorn ---------------- Full of all sorts of junk. Co-ordinators should sort and label relevant thing after they've finsihed an issue. Liz S. to sort it out. stART ----- Laura would like this distributed with the Rad - it comes out bimonthly. We all agreed on the basis that stART people would insert it and that the Rag should have something in, saying it's there. Cassette version ---------------- Guy and Nick have been producing the cassette version of the Rag - 4 copies for the next issue. Nick is leaving soon but Guy will carry on & needs help so there are different voices reading bits. Preferably people who can pronounce long words! Ring 669562. Reading between the Lines ------------------------- is starting again for this yeat. James kind offer at looking after it again received enthusiastic approbation. Contact James on 595605.
