MINUTES: of a Red Rag Collective meeting, 21st October 1984 at 92a London Road Present were: Paul Guy Laura Clive Jackie James Next meeting; 4 pm, Sunday 2nd December, at 30 Erleigh Road. Co-ordinators for next issues: 28 October: Clive 11 November: James - messages to Guy 669562 25 November: Laura (no phone no. as yet) 9 December: Jackie " " " " " Print run: Should go up to 1600, as we're running short soon and always. Money: The situation is believed to be healthy, still. £75 lent to R.B.L. which will come back. James undertook to re-print the standing order form. And to get collecting tins for Listen, Music Market, Elephant. An under-the-counter deal with Bulmershe may be on the cards. 5th birthday issue: was discussed, but you can see for yourselves. Party: Three separate events were talked about and approved, namely:- A Christmas gig with the Complaints and the Soft Dogs, at Paradise, Dec 15 A social at the Crown, Thurs 8th November. £1 (50p unwaged). 8pm. Late bar. A Christmas social, nearer Xmas, small-scale and friendly, for anyone involved with the Rag. "Like a collective meeting with cakes". Rag Bag (tape): will be out by Christmas. Production is being sorted out. c100 copies will be made. Postal readers: still mostly haven't replied to Paul's letters. Agreed to send them a final demand and then stop sending to them. Exchanges with other papers (e.g. Exeter Flying Post, Leeds Other Paper) "a good idea in principle"; but maybe the IWW is a bit far away. Boxes in Acorn: The system isn't working. I think we decided we only should have one box there , as we were, and the other box was to be passed from one co-ordinator to the other, rather like the Olympic flame. Standard format for Events: suggested to save time. Approved, so long as it isn't compulsory. Eco-fayre: We were invited to take a stall at this event. Sat 24th November at St Mary's Centre, the Butts. We decided we could afford £3 just now. James apparently said he would co-ordinate this: could anyone else who's interested please get in touch? (92a London Road, no tel) "Quiet censorship": Discussion based on article on Ecology which hasn't gone in three issues. But Bridget apparently did get in touch with the author; it's not clear what else we can do. Where does the co-ordinator's responsibility end? We reminded ourselves that articles considered "boring" should not just be quietly lost but sent back to be rewritten. The co-ordinator should always get in touch with anybody whose article isn't put in. Display at Acorn: Clive has (since the meeting) put one up! Review of recent Rags: A suggestion from Guy of something that might be done at Collective meetings. "If it worked it might have disturbing effects"!? Notes for co-ordinators: have these turned up or not? Anyway James again will try to sort something out. Citizen Cain: James delegated to voice various criticisms to the author. I think that's all, James -- $Id: //info.ravenbrook.com/user/ndl/readings-only-newspaper/minutes/1984/1984-10-21.txt#1 $
