SAT 17 MAY A Cruise Missile is a robot plane with a nuclear warhead, it flies fast and low and is very accu- rate, enabling it to be used to make surprise attacks on ‘enemy’ missile silos. Cruise missiles are kept at military bases, but in times of crisis are wheeled out into the surrounding countryside on their launching lorries. Thus, if the ‘enemy’ got in first, he, she or it would have to attack a whole area around a cruise missile base to ensure disabling them. PTO Now it just happens that NATO, our valiant defenders, want to install Cruise missiles in the USAF base at Upper Heyford, just up the road in Oxfordshire, and it also so happens that a lot of people don’t want then to. SO there is a march against the cruise missiles, on saturday 17 may. Assemble at 9.30, University Parks, Oxford, (bottom of Banbury Road. or at 9.30 at Banbury Cross. or, if you can’t do the long walk, join the march at 2pm on the A43 (layby just sth of Upper Heyford, between middleton Stoney and Ardley) CONTACT 99 woodstock rd, Oxford. or phone Oxford 54701, 511559, or 47429 (code is 0865) SAT 24 MAY A PWR is a Pressurized Water Reactor, like the one that nearly blew up Harrisburg (and will yet kill people via the radioactive gases STILL trapped inside it). THEY (IN this case identifiable as the Central Electricity Generating Board, and probably Margaret Thatcher MP) want to build one at Dungeness, just down the road, where thy’ve already got one of every other sort of newkiller power device. There’ll be a protest rally and march from Lydd, Probably transport from Reading, phone Liz at Acorn xxxxxx or on 661907 for details. TROUBLE BREWING AT ADWEST The bosses of Adwest Engineering in Reading are attempting to smash Shop-floor organisation and dictate wages and conditions. Adwest workers have been working to rule for a 20% pay increase with no strings. The dispute escalated when a leading militant in the fac- tory, Martin Kaufman, was sacked for taking part in an occupation for Martin’s re-instatement. Adwest is part of a multi-national, supplying Power steering equipment to Rover, Jaguar, Range Rover and Chrysler Talbot. The strikers are calling on workers in the motor industry to black Adwest products.
